Position:       Summer Maintenance Worker /Custodian                 Hours:  7:00 AM – 3:30 PM;  M - F

Rate of Pay:   $16.25-$19.71/hour                                                                  Date of Posting:  May 7, 2019

Position Summary:

Responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the facilities and equipment.  Operates, repairs, and maintains electrical/electronic and mechanical systems and equipment, repairs and maintains sinks, toilets, and other plumbing, carpentry projects, maintains exterior of the building, including general grounds keeping, painting, cleaning drains, etc.

 

 Education & Experience:

§ Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency

§ Valid First Aid card & CPR endorsement with ability to perform CPR if necessary

§ WSP-FBI background clearance required

§ Valid Washington State driver’s license with a good driving record

§ Successfully complete the Worksteps Program (test of physical ability) prior to employment.  Will be scheduled by the

      District

 

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

§ Adequate physical strength, must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs up to 50 lbs

§ Ability to communicate in a positive manner effectively with students, parents, faculty and administrators

§ Ability to accurately complete job duties with minimal supervision

§ Must be able to work effectively and professionally under pressure and continual interruptions

§ Must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with demonstrated ability to be flexible and versatile

§ Must be able to perform the essential job functions and scheduled assignments

§ Able to work independently, initiate tasks, anticipate needs, and perform preventative maintenance

§ Consciously models values of trust, decency, integrity and appropriate school behavior

§ General working knowledge, experience, and willingness to learn:

  • electrical maintenance and repair
  • plumbing repair
  • ·operation, diagnostics, and repair of electronic/computer-controlled systems, including the boiler system
  • general construction, concrete, carpentry, electrical

§ Ability to read instructions, communicate effectively both in writing and verbally 

§ Ability to communicate with staff, students, and parents with tact and diplomacy

§ Able to work independently, initiate tasks, anticipate needs, and perform preventative maintenance

 

Essential Job Functions:

§ Sweeps, mops, spot cleans, strips floors, refinishes, vacuums, cleans carpets, dusts, etc.

§ Cleans and sanitizes lavatories, including proper disposal of bodily fluids and proper cleanup

§ Orders supplies and maintains proper inventory levels

§ Performs maintenance work inside and outside the buildings, such as ceilings, attic, roof, electrical, carpentry,  

      plumbing, concrete, masonry, insulation, etc.

§ Operates and programs fire alarm and HVAC systems

§ Locks and unlocks buildings, secures buildings, properly displays flags

§ Works with outside contractors, when needed

§ Works well with students, staff, and public

§ Supervises students in the cafeteria

§ Reports safety and other concerns to administrator(s) immediately

§ Prepares and maintains reports

§ Implements safe work practices, including chemical use, storage of chemicals, flammables, tools, equipment, and

      associated materials

§ General grounds maintenance

§ Supervises summer help

§ Other duties, as assigned

 

Conditions of Work:

Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, and possess manual dexterity to manipulate objects, tools, and/or controls. Frequently required to squat, stoop or kneel, bend, twist, and reach above head. Occasionally candidate will work at various heights on ladders and scaffolding and in confined spaces; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally will lift and/or move over 50 pounds with assistance. Regularly works both indoors and outdoors. Candidate may operate equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters; works with bleach, toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. Must be able to work unconventional hours in case of an emergency. Must have visual acuity and ability to see colors.
