The Cosmopolis School District recently received a $100,000 grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for urgent repairs needed at the school.
The Urgent Repair Grant program was created and funded by the Legislature, and Cosmopolis is one of 62 Washington state school districts to receive a portion of $5 million.
In Cosmopolis the fund will be used to replace antiquated exterior doors for the auditorium and gymnasium.
The work will make the doors and hardware Americans with Disabilities Act compliant, and will include electronic key card access to improve security while managing access to the building.
A competitive selection process was used to evaluate and prioritize requests from 198 school district applications, with the top 73 projects being funded in 62 districts. Cherie Patterson, superintendent of Cosmopolis School District, said the district has begun the process required to get the work completed.
